A LIVE AND ARCHIVES UPDATE FROM MR. L

WHERE KIDS DARE NOT BE

Due to the proverbial plethora of computer related agita, we have been a tad behind on getting our archived and streaming replays up and on line.

Our last full show of 7/11/10 was a persona favorite. Sadly, the computer problems that plagued the broadcast apparently caused the recording software to die about an hour into the show, so the bulk of the broadcast I’d so enjoyed doing and looked forward to sharing with you, is unavailable. Should anyone reading this have recorded the stream, please let me know as we are otherwise without a copy.

Our fill in live let’s play radio 10 PM hour last week which followed Brother Dave, will be posted on Monday. It was live, raw, unscripted fun and as most of you were AWOL for it, it will be here for the downloading.

We shall also post Dave THE Boogie Man’s program from the 4th of July which featured some excellent live in studio musicians. If you missed it, it will be available in 3 parts, the pre game show and the actual live program. It is a good one and I’d suggest that if you find that my taste and Dave’s musical tastes mirrors your own, it is a must have! We have done audio restoration on it to make it sound rather swell.

This week, The Extravagonzo will be all new and all live as usual. I’ve been cogitating on many things, but really feel like sharing some old New York stories and intend to do so.

Specifically, I shall ruminate randomly on my first time (if you know what I mean) and my love affair with Times Square, back when it was still worth visiting, at its peak of perdition and danger.

The pic at the top of our web post is of the old and long deceased ‘Cafe Metropole’, a randy jazz dive that welcomed, and ripped off tourist and celebrities alike.

An old mob hangout and often mob operated joint, it always had this inexplicable illicit allure and appeal to it that drew me to want to go there, however, I was a mere kidling then and my uncle who often bounced and tended to the door, never allow me entrance.

By the time I could have gone there, it was over. The club welcomed many a jazz great, and lots of wholly forgettable acts, as it swung hard with music everyday from noon until the wee hours.

It was also the site of one of the city’s more infamous, and earliest mob rub outs, some lost history we shall revive for your infotainment value this Sunday, as I find the lore rather fascinating, and expect you may too.

We take to the air here at Johnlightning.Com, and perhaps on your shortwave machine (check loco listings) at 8PM Eastern time. Our internet only pre game show of musical goodies begins about 7:30.

We shall sally forth on the net until 11 PM or so, unless I get tired, the listenership is small, or your telephonic response is typically sluggish. We have worked hard to restore the phone equipment to full functionality, and expect y’all to interact with us, as this is an integral part of the show.

The paucity of callers is one of the reasons why I continue to consider cutting back my programming ever further. Without listener input and feedback, this endeavor becomes less fun, less interesting, and there is less reason to put out… the effort that is!

So join us Sunday, July 25th, for a show we hope you will cherish for years to come, as we deliver the goods here on the world famous 11L Network. Original formula Radio NewYork International is what we provide, and all we ask in return is your phone and/or e-mail interaction. As someone use to say, “See you on the radio”.

BOOGIE MAN & FRIENDS TONIGHT

Sunday, July 18th, 2010

11L/RNI’s very only Dave ‘THE” Boogie Man, returns to the air from the Staten Island facility with two rounds of musical mayhem, before giving way to either dead air or open microphones featuring the usual idiots in drunken conversation until we decide we have had enough of y’all.

Be here from 8PM Eastern until whatever for Dave, and perhaps a very drunken Mr. L & his bigness!

BP Says Oil in Gulf Must be Changed Every Six Months

Saturday, July 10th, 2010

GULF OF MEXICO (The Borowitz Report) - At a time when many thought that news out of the Gulf of Mexico couldn’t get any worse, BP announced today that the oil in the Gulf needs to be changed every six months.

“The oil will need to be changed every six months or every 15,000 lies,” said the BP spokesman. “Whatever comes sooner.”

The announcement about the oil change came on the heels of BP’s decision earlier in the week to separate the Gulf into two sections, full-serve and self-serve.

Sensing that the company was staring down a deepening public relations disaster, BP CEO Tony Hayward attempted to sound a compassionate note: “If this sort of damage were being inflicted on my yacht, I would be devastated.”

AN 11L/RNI PROGRAMMING UPDATE

Sunday, July 4th, 2010

This evening our only Dave THE Boogie Man returns with an all new, all singing, and all dancing 4th of July spectacular, featuring the type of music one could expect from the man who celebrates every fourth by buying a fifth on the third, and consumes it in three hours. Simply stated, the soundtrack for your holiday evening will be on RNI this evening from 8 PM Eastern, until Dave gets tired. Not to be missed.

Also a note for those of you concerned about our slow archive updating, I’ve been spectacularly lazy of late (of late?), evincing all the traits of sloth and indolence I embrace when not having to play Mr. Radio for your entertainment.

That said, our last two Extravagonzo’s are now ON LINE AND READY FOR DOWNLOADING.

I do believe our last show was another benchmark example of what we do here at our Staten Island studio, not to mention, a grand listening experience, one that should be on your PC or I-POD, so get busy downloading it already. If you missed out, be grateful for this second chance kids!

Also our somewhat abbreviated abortion of a drunken rave from a few weeks ago is also now on-line for discerning listeners to wallow in. It was silly, sick and sloppy, in short… Another Winner (in an offbeat and frenetic way), that should not be missed by sentient life forms everywhere.

I’ll be back to harass and harangue you again next week, so be prepared for our hot radio fun in the summertime this week and every week courtesy of RNI… where our high standard of standard ness is standard!
